About Executive Coach Justin Perkins
What is life like at the Edge?
“When I turned 30, I had the chance to do a four day vision quest fasting solo in the desert wilderness - a ceremony inspired by indigenous rites of passage tradition.
I had a massive insight as I was watching a lizard climb in and out of a cave on the side of a cliff.
In that moment, I realized my purpose was to do the same.
I started to see the opportunity in darkness, the edge of shadows, as transition points. I glimpsed the incredible energy of focus and a sense of inner calm and power as I explored the inner realms of my consciousness, and the outer realms of Death Valley.
We are incredible beings, always dancing with life between the yin and yang, the dual elements of creativity.
The name Edge stuck in my brain, under the surface in my subconscious, for over a decade as I navigated some massive life experiences as a father and business creator.
This vision was the seed that eventually became integrated in my life purpose to push myself beyond the edges of beliefs and self-induced limitations so that I could also guide others to their full expression and potential as human beings.
This has led me to reimagine myself constantly, and master the art of reinvention that I now share with some of the most inspiring changemakers on the planet.
Every day is a New Edge of Opportunity, a creative fresh start, a chance to expand the edge of your comfort zone and create a masterpiece of a day, a week, a month, a year, and a life...” - Justin Perkins
I am a “possibilist.”
I am lucky to have a unique, multi-disciplinary background that has been incredible preparation for highly creative executive coaching across multiple industries.
My exposure to being coached goes back to a passion for athletics and music. Before getting involved in a career spanning 25 years in five industries, I was obsessed with skiing and competed at a high level in freestyle mogul skiing - rising to top 60 in the Rocky Mountain region.
I was also a competitive soccer player all the way through university, as well as a performing saxophonist, and a singer-songwriter.
I studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University, and then switched to anthropology and world perspectives at a small liberal arts school that really catered to my eclectic interests. I designed my own major and a significant outcome of this “choose your own adventure approach” led me to do independent research in both Brazil and Africa - and ultimately was ideal training for the ambiguity of entrepreneurship.
My first “coaching client” happened by accident in 2001 when my wife and I went to South Africa and helped a Congolese refugee and musician to launch an artist residency project to support the human rights of marginalized “Forest People” in the Congo. He was able to return home, and eventually made it to Sweden where he’s now a globally recognized musician. This inspiring project inspired me to finish an MBA at University of Colorado so I could be more effective in bringing complex ideas to life. Full story is here.
Before becoming a coach, I went on to have an exciting career as a founder of a snack brand in the natural products industry, and a contributor to early stage companies, including the largest “social network for good.”
Here are some other highlights from my adventures in business and leadership:
Expanded my brother’s organic farm business at age 22 in Colorado.
Managed a watershed covering several municipalities in Colorado as a Deputy Water Commissioner.
Co-wrote a book on decision-making for a US Department of Defense think tank called The Center for Technology and National Security Policy.
Helped a refugee from Congo launch a human rights nonprofit and become a global musician at the top of the music charts.
Created an award-winning snack brand, Olomomo, raising capital from 50 angel investors, and assembling a team which grew the company to over a $3M valuation and 3,000 points of distribution in major grocery channels.
Convinced Richard Branson via Twitter to put Olomomo Nuts on Virgin America.
Raised a family while selling over 800 deals totaling $30m in revenue for the first online social-impact social network in the world: Care2.com.
Sold over $1M in revenue for SocialNature.com as a part-time consultant - during the pandemic.
Other fun highlights: Justin recorded an original song in Peter Gabriel’s studio in 2022, climbed 35 peaks in Colorado over 14,000 ft, was featured on Good Morning America and The Cooking Channel, ran the Stinson Beach marathon, traveled to fifteen countries, and launched an executive coaching business in the middle of the global pandemic.
Rose to the top 1% of coaches in the world in just two years while also moving his family to the Black Forest in Germany in the process.
I now work every day to create psychologically fit cultures of innovation with entrepreneurs, leaders and teams around the world.
I help leader uncover and flex their innate creative super powers.
I’ve sought out the best cutting edge teachers and coaches in the world as mentors, and I constantly hone the art of helping people with rapid mindset and behavioral changes.
I create customized coaching experiences to help founders, CEOs and leaders to discover their own ways of learning and creating effective systems to improve mindset, skillsets, a healthy lifestyle, behavior, relationships, teams and businesses.
If you want to go big and create an incredible business and inspiring life in the process… then let’s have a conversation.
